A diamond brooch once owned by French emperor Napoleon Bonaparte and lost during his escape from the Battle of Waterloo has sold for $4.4 million at a Sotheby’s auction in Geneva.
The 13-carat jewel, steeped in historical significance, far exceeded pre-sale estimates and was purchased by a private collector. The brooch was originally captured after Napoleon’s defeat in 1815 and later given to King Frederick William III of Prussia. Its sale highlights ongoing fascination with Napoleonic artifacts and the enduring allure of royal and historic jewels.
The auction also featured other rare and valuable pieces from royal and noble families.
