A high-level United Nations conference, co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia, has convened in New York to revive efforts for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The event is marked by the absence of both the United States and Israel, who have boycotted the talks, citing concerns over the conference's effectiveness. Despite this, dozens of countries, including Canada and several EU members, are participating and reiterating that a two-state solution is the only viable path to lasting peace. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and other leaders have called for an end to Israeli actions undermining Palestinian statehood and stressed the urgency of addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Saudi Arabia has reaffirmed that normalization with Israel is contingent on the establishment of a Palestinian state.
