Ghana's Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu, is spearheading significant changes in the country's higher education sector.
He has inaugurated new governing councils for universities, including the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), and appointed prominent traditional leaders to leadership roles. The government is set to disburse GH₵10 million each to revive distressed technical universities and is reviewing a €200 million proposal to boost university infrastructure. The Minister has also challenged institutions like Bolgatanga Technical University to lead in sustainable agricultural innovation and ensure practical, hands-on learning.
These moves aim to strengthen governance, infrastructure, and the practical relevance of tertiary education in Ghana.
